Senior Surface Water Consultant
Primary Responsibilities
- To assist the Sydney Team Leader and HARC senior management to grow HARC’s presence in Sydney, by winning and delivering surface water consulting projects.
Typical activities will involve developing existing and new client relationships to generate prospects, proposals and projects for HARC’s Sydney team and the wider business.
- To lead water resource related consulting projects, and deliver them in a cost-effective and timely manner, with outputs tailored to the needs of the client.
Typical activities will involve developing project scopes, budgets, timelines, safety and quality plans with the assistance of a Project Director, and managing a small team to complete the technical and reporting tasks that comprise the project.

- Reports to: Sydney Team Leader
- Works with: Project Directors, other project team members

Key Selection Criteria
The successful applicant will:
Tertiary Qualifications
- Have appropriate tertiary qualification in civil or environmental engineering, or in science (postgraduate qualifications in relevant fields will also be viewed favourably)
Knowledge / Skills
- Use their strong technical skills, and good-standing with clients and within the wider Australian water industry, to generate consulting work for themselves and others
- Use their high-level interpersonal skills to assist the HARC Sydney Team Leader and senior management to continue building HARC’s Sydney team
- Provide mentoring to more junior staff
- Manage projects to deliver high-quality outputs within the project budget and timeline
- Write clear and concise reports and presentations
- Contribute to the preparation of journal and conference papers and presentations
- Communicate regularly and effectively with clients and other project team members
- Manage their own time, and work independently
Experience
- Have at least 10 years of experience in the Australian water industry
- Have recent experience working for an engineering consultancy
- Have prior experience developing a pipeline of consulting work
Attitude
- Demonstrate a passion for working in surface water consulting
- Demonstrate a ‘can-do’ approach to building client relationships and consulting teams
- Work well in teams
- Develop their own and other’s knowledge and skills through formal and on the job training
- Promote a ‘safety first’ approach to office-based and out of office work
