Water Resources Engineer
Primary Responsibilities
- To manage hydrology and water resources modelling projects, and deliver them in a cost‑effective and timely manner, with outputs tailored to the needs of the client
Typical activities will involve developing project scopes, budgets, timelines, safety and quality plans with the assistance of a Project Director, training junior staff so they can competently and efficiently complete their work, and managing a small team to complete the tasks that comprise the project.
- To assist other Project Managers and Project Directors on a range of hydrology and water resources modelling projects
Typical activities will involve undertaking or overseeing the collation and analysis of time series data, hydrology and water resources model development and calibration, and scenario modelling. Report writing is also a key activity.

Key Selection Criteria
The successful applicant will:
Tertiary Qualifications
Have appropriate tertiary qualifications in civil or environmental engineering
Knowledge / Skills
- Understand the key principles of hydrology and water resources modelling, and have the ability to apply these in standard and novel ways during consulting projects for a range of clients
- Use spreadsheets, GIS software and/or computer programming to analyse large data sets
- Competently use relevant hydrology and water resources models such as Source, REALM, IQQM and/or WATHNET
- Write concise reports and presentations summarising the purpose, method and important outcomes of a project
- Communicate regularly and effectively with clients and other project team members
- Teach others how to undertake hydrology and water resources modelling tasks
- Manage their own time when provided with task timelines and budgets
- Manage projects to deliver high quality outputs within the project budget and timeline
Experience
- Have 5 to 15 years of hydrology and water resources modelling experience in the Australian water industry
- Have recent experience working for an engineering consultancy, water corporation or government agency
Attitude
- Demonstrate a passion for working in hydrology and water resources
- Work well in teams, and share their time with more junior team members
- Develop their own knowledge and skills through formal and on-the-job training
- Promote a ‘safety first’ approach to office-based and out-of-office work

Applicants must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or hold a valid work permit or visa
Location
The role is likely to be based in HARC’s Melbourne office (Blackburn); however, working from the Sydney office (Parramatta) is an option. Working from home will also be possible some of the time.
